For many people, myself included, dogs and cats are more than pets. They’ve become part of families and provide strong emotional support. These four-legged companions have taken over our homes. This very mindset sparked Royal Canin’s mission to create an environment in which pet owners and pet shop owners prioritize pets’ health. Aside from helping behind the scenes, I jumped at the chance to immerse myself in making a better world for pets.
Caring for pets is not a steady responsibility. I am constantly learning new ways to be a better pet parent. And the vision of a better world for our pets starts with empowering ourselves with access to specialized nutrition. Truly, a healthy pet is a happy pet owner. Making informed and tailored decisions for pets means finding trustworthy sources.
Thankfully, Royal Canin answered that call. At the Pet Shop University (PSU), a dedicated Trade Education Program and campaign equipped pet shop owners, staff, partners, and pet owners like myself with the knowledge to provide the best nutritional standards and care for pets.
The Pact Between Science and Care: Vet Partnerships and Paw-ducation

Do I buy an expensive brand or stick to my budget? Made in the USA or go local? What’s the best potty training method? These are some pet care decisions that I consider every time I buy supplies for my oh-so-cute force feline, Vader, at the pet shop. Of course, buying pet essentials is based on preferences and needs, but PSU gave participants much-needed clarity and practical insights. It became an educational space that answered my questions with science-based nutrition and pet wellness pro tips. Pet shop owners also learned expert-driven recommendations they can share with their customers.
Always Clean, Always Fresh: Grooming and Care Drive

I love it when Vader is all clean and spotless. Spoiling him with hugs and kisses is one of my favorite pastimes. Fresh-looking dogs, too, are also my weakness. When cats and dogs look fresh, clean, and irresistibly cute, it’s a clear reflection of proper grooming and genuine care for their health. Because true pet wellness goes beyond what’s within to how they’re cared for on the outside, too. Unfortunately, I couldn’t bring Vader with me, but I learned a lot from the trusted pet groomers who cared for every pet participant. And seeing big balls of floof transform into perfectly groomed, stuffed toy–like pets melted everyone’s hearts.
In the New Hands of Care: Rehoming Initiatives

I’ve always admired people who choose pet adoption. Finding a new home for pets is a great commitment. Rehoming means taking pets into a safe, loving environment where they may be new to their surroundings but are given the care and support they need to adjust, feel secure, and ultimately thrive. Hearing about rehoming initiatives at Royal Canin’s Pet Shop University empowered pet owners and partners with the right knowledge, practical guidance, and confidence to turn every new home into a place where pets don’t just settle in but truly belong and flourish.
Inspired by the day’s connections and conversations, I couldn’t wait to go home to Vader. The different perspectives, support, and information opened my mind to transformative pet care. At the heart of this movement, it’s all about helping cats and dogs feel safe, loved, and truly at home, making a better world for pets!
