With a simple idea of turning your phone into a wallet, GCash launched in 2004 and has since come a long way in championing financial inclusion.

Fast forward to 2024, with the show-stopping GCash 20th Anniversary Gala — a tribute to founders and 94 million Filipinos, the stage held space for 20 years worth of stories, achievements, milestones, and heroes that became the face of GCash, both THEN and NOW.

This became the foreground of the production that we wanted to gift to GCash on their birthday, inspired by the thens and nows and faces of GCash through the years, creating iconic collabs on the iconic stage.

In 2004, GCash broke the news of “Wallet na ang Cellphone mo!” with father and son duo Gary Valenciano and Paolo Valenciano, then becoming the starting point of our story. Which artist now matches the pure energy and charisma of the unstoppable duo?

Enter the “Kings of P-Pop”, SB19 with more than 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify, 4.21M subscribers on YouTube, and just headlined “PAGTATAG!” their first world tour. We knew this group was it, and that a Gary V and SB19 collab had to happen on the GCash 20th Anniversary stage.

And true enough, the Gento performance became one of the night’s biggest viral moments, with the unexpected Gary V and SB19 collaboration creating major buzz across Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and X. The cross-generational performance sparked massive fan excitement, turning the stage into a highly shared cultural moment that lived far beyond the gala night itself.

Okay, strong opening down —- now what?

To match the electrifying energy of the night, the show brought together powerhouse voices built to move a crowd. Morissette, Asia’s Phoenix, joined iconic OPM legend Bituin Escalante, with SB19’s Stell completing a rare generational blend as they delivered soaring renditions of empowering anthems like Rise Up, This Is Me, and Defying Gravity, turning the stage into a celebration of GCash’s journey and its impact on financial inclusion.

To close the night, the production reached its grandest scale with the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, led by maestro Louie Ocampo. Acting as the musical backbone of the finale, the orchestra elevated the entire show into a cinematic experience, weaving together 20 years of stories through sweeping orchestral arrangements. Under Ocampo’s direction, every performance seamlessly built toward a powerful, unified crescendo, ending the celebration on a deeply moving, high-impact note that honored both GCash’s legacy and its future.
